Kimber Bishop-Yankee has found a way to “promote the self-esteem of women”-and get paid for it. In November she launched Inspired By…, a Berkley, MI-based gift catalog selling merchandise for women created by women.
The first edition mailed to 8,000 rented names, primarily targeting businesswomen. Items in Inspired By… range from T-shirts and jewelry to books and games, and the catalog features inspirational essays about the women who created the products.
According to Bishop-Yankee, the response rate has exceeded expectations. The average price point is $30; the average order size is $90. Plans for Inspired By…, which will mail twice a year, include an increase in page count and the launch of an online store.
