(Louisville, KY) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com), a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, announces that its recent $24.7-million contract with the United States Postal Service (USPS) was one of the largest material handling contracts awarded by the USPS last year and has been cited as the 14th largest contract of any kind granted by the USPS in FY 2004.* The award covers the design and implementation of a bulk- and tray-mail sorting and distribution system and an airline receiving concourse operation at the JFK International Service Center in Queens, New York.
The new sorting and distribution system is one of the largest single-site material handling projects that the USPS has implemented in recent years and is part of an extensive operational upgrade at the JFK center. To allow the center to continue to operate during the installation, the FKI Logistex project will be implemented in phases.
“The USPS utilizes a very rigorous and demanding purchasing process. FKI Logistex is honored to be one of the United States Postal Service’s top suppliers for FY 2004,” says John Kelly, president, FKI Logistex Airport, Post and Parcel North America.
“This contract follows our long history of successful implementations for the USPS and for postal processing facilities around the world. The project further illustrates the successful integration of airport and postal material handling technologies by FKI Logistex.”
“The USPS has a forward-looking strategy and demonstrated ability to pursue new technology projects in partnership with its vendor partners that fits extremely well with our business model,” adds Kelly. “FKI Logistex appreciates the confidence in our company that this USPS contract award demonstrates.”
