Land of Nod affirms retail expansion

In a move that will make it a triple-channel competitor, children’s furniture cataloger/Web marketer Land of Nod will open its first store early next year in Chicago.

The Wheeling, IL-based company, which was founded in 1995 and generates about $15 million in sales, is scouting sites for another store in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Land of Nod also plans to open a store in the Seattle area next year.

Why is this small direct marketer now pursuing retail? Most likely because fellow furnishing marketer Crate & Barrel—which operates more than 80 stores nationwide—owns a 50% stake in Land of Nod.
