Pittsburgh—On Sept. 25, Federal Express’s ground delivery division, FedEx Ground, opened 63 Home Delivery terminals throughout the U.S. The carrier’s ground delivery service now reaches 80% of the U.S. population.
Fifty-six of the terminals are in existing FedEx Ground facilities. FedEx Ground president/CEO Daniel Sullivan says the unit’s expansion is more than a year ahead of schedule. “We are committed to rolling out FedEx Home Delivery at an accelerated rate,” he says.
Such catalogers as Williams-Sonoma and Harry and David have started channeling parcels through FedEx Home Delivery. Implemented in March 2000, the service was set up to compete with United Parcel Service for catalog ground deliveries.
