Now you see it, no you don’t

We thought we’d seen everything until we saw – or didn’t see – The Invisible Man Brand catalog. The summer 2000 edition of this 12-page digest catalog is, as the tagline says, “filled with products you won’t see in stores!” You won’t actually see the products in the catalog either, because, well, they’re invisible. From the invisible tandem bike not pictured on the cover to the invisible toupee and the trendy invisible scooter not shown inside, these products are clearly out of sight.

As you might have guessed, this is not a real catalog. Instead it’s a promotion from the Sci Fi cable-TV network for its new original series, The Invisible Man. Not only is this a clever idea, but we particularly applaud the company for its attention to catalog detail, from the fake SKU numbers to the realistic-seeming price points. Our favorite page? The inside back cover, which proclaims “visit our outlet store!” (accompanied by a photograph of an empty building lot) and “our operators are standing by!” with a photo depicting rows and rows of unattended cubicles.
