Second-quarter sales for Office Depot decreased 1%, to $3.6 billion for the three months ended June 28. The company reported a net loss of $2 million, compared to net income of $106 million for the same period last year.
Sales in the North America Business Solutions Division, which includes catalogs, slipped 5%, to $1.1 billion. Company officials said in a release that sales in the direct channel were impacted by “continued softness among small- to medium-sized business customers in Florida and California,” which account for about 30% of the division’s sales.
For Office Depot’s North American Retail Division, sales fell 6%, to $1.4 billion, with same-store sales down 10% for the quarter. Sales in the International Division rose 13%, to $1.0 billion.
