Department store retailer Belk, Inc. announced plans to expand its ecommerce distribution and fulfillment center in South Carolina.
Through a release on its website the retailer said it has spent $9 million to “upfit additional space” at its 500,000 square-foot Jonesville facility this year and plans to invest an additional $32 million in 2014.
“Our ecommerce business continues to grow very quickly and we need to invest in our fulfillment capabilities to keep pace with that growth,” John R. Belk, Belk, Inc. president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.
The first phase of the expansion was completed this year and the company is expected to complete phase two by August 2014 and the expansion, according to Belk, will create 170 new jobs by the end of 2015.
