Sales Rise, Net Income Falls At United Stationers

Second-quarter sales for office supplies merchant United Stationers rose 9.7%, to $1.25 billion, for the three-month period ended June 30. Much of the growth can be attributed to ORS Nasco, which the company acquired in December 2007, officials said in a release.

Sales increased more than 14% in the janitorial/breakroom category, up modestly in office products and technology, and partially offset by an 8% decrease in furniture sales. United Stationers’ net income fell 11%, to 21.47 million, compared to 24.10 million for the same period last year.
