In-flight co-op cataloger SkyMall has hired a new president to succeed founder/CEO Robert Worsley, who is retiring. She’s Christine Aguilera (not to be confused with the pop singer), who has served as SkyMall’s general counsel/chief financial officer since 1997.
“Christine is an extremely capable executive with a track record of success during her tenure at SkyMall,” Jeff Shell, CEO of Gemstar-TV Guide International, parent firm of SkyMall, said in a statement. “She and her team of experienced managers will provide continuity and excellent leadership as we capitalize on the significant growth opportunities we see for SkyMall going forward.”
Gemstar-TV Guide bought SkyMall in May 2001 in a cash-and-stock merger agreement. As for Worsley, who founded SkyMall in 1989, it appears that Gemstar chose to move in a new direction with a greater emphasis on number-crunching, since Aguilera is both an attorney and a certified public accountant: “We are pleased to have settled our differences with Bob,” Shell’s statement said, “and wish him the very best for the future.” Aguilera will report to John Loughlin, president of the TV Guide Publishing Group.
