Novato, CA—Smith & Hawken, the cataloger/retailer of garden products, says it will lay off 21 employees—including several vice presidents—to streamline corporate operations and focus on expanding market share. Smith & Hawken employs more than 800 workers in its corporate office and 43 retail locations.
Despite the challenging business climate, Smith & Hawken still plans on opening additional stores. Earlier this month, CATALOG AGE reported that Karyn Barsa, who led the gardening tools marketer as president/CEO for the past 18 months, had left the company.
