Fourth-quarter total sales for Framingham, MA-based catalog/retailer Staples increased 4%, to $6.4 billion for the three months ended Jan. 30. But sales from the office supplies merchant’s North American Delivery Business slipped 1%, to $2.4 billion, for the quarter.
The company’s North American Delivery Business includes the Staples and Quill catalog and online businesses as well as the Staples contract delivery business.
Staples’ North American retail sales increased 8% for the quarter, to $2.6 billion, and same-store sales rose 3%. Fourth-quarter net income fell 18%, to $234 million.
For fiscal year 2009, total company sales increased 5%, to $24.3 billion. Full-year sales from its North American Delivery Business jumped 8%, to $9.6 billion. North American retail sales slipped 1%, to $9.4 billion.
