Eddie Bauer’s parent firm, Spiegel, may be bankrupt, but that hasn’t kept the Redmond, WA-based apparel cataloger/retailer from trying to do something about the environment. On July 7, Eddie Bauer announced it was launching an environmental awareness campaign with eight Hollywood celebrities. The campaign will be promoted in Eddie Bauer catalogs, the Website, more than 300 Bauer stores, and in more than a dozen Conde Nast magazines.
Actors Daryl Hannah, Rob Lowe, Melina Kanakaredes, Peter Horton, Dean Cain, Christian Slater, Amy Smart, and Henry Simmons will appear in the campaign, which plays off Bauer’s “Explore Eddie Bauer” brand campaign by encouraging consumers to “explore your environment.” The campaign contains testimonials from the actors on their personal efforts to preserve the environment, calling on the public to join in. All the actors are shown wearing Eddie Bauer clothes, including an all-organic cotton T-shirt that Bauer will offer in its stores and Website July 14-Aug. 25 with all proceeds benefiting the Environmental Media Association (EMA).
Eddie Bauer’s partnership with the EMA is featured in a four-page magazine insert featuring Horton, Simmons, and Smart in the August issues of such Conde Nast magazines as Vogue, GQ, Lucky, and Vanity Fair. A six-page insert featuring Lowe, Hannah, Slater, Cain, and Kanakaredes will appear in the September issues of Vogue, Glamour, Self, GQ, Details, Lucky, Cargo, Vanity Fair, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, Wired, and The New Yorker.
