Teamsters vote to strike if UPS talks fail

Hopefully it won’t come to this–but should contract negotiations with United Parcel Service fail, the Teamsters have voted to walk out.

The union, which represents more than 200,000 UPS drivers, sorters, clerks, and loaders, voted this past weekend on whether to strike if it cannot negotiate a new contract with the parcel carrier. The current five-year contract with UPS expires July 31.

According to Associated Press, preliminary results show that 93% of Teamsters who voted were in favor of striking. Teamsters walked out on the UPS for two weeks in 1997.
