Seventy-six percent of Americans who surfed the Web last month used a search engine, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. That equals 114.5 million Americans, or 39% of the U.S. population.
Google was the most popular search engine, used by 39% of active Web users. In second place was Yahoo! Search (30%), followed closely by MSN Search (nearly 30%). AOL Search (16%) and Ask Jeeves (8%) rounded out the top five.
