Winners of Bubble Wrap Competition Announced

Protective packaging manufacturer Sealed Air Corp. has announced the winners of its third annual Bubble Wrap Competition For Young Inventors, a nationwide competition in which students in grades 5 through 8 design an invention that makes use of Bubble Wrap brand cushioning.

Finalists in the competition were announced in January in Multichannel Merchant’s Operations & Fulfillment Advisor.

Tucker Haas, 11, of Charlotte, N.C. is the grand prizewinner in this year’s competition. His invention, “My Personal Swing Thing,” is a swing designed for children with movement disorders, providing adjustable back and neck support using different amounts of Bubble Wrap brand cushioning.

Haas competed against 2,200 entries from students around the country, ultimately winning the top prize, a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond, for his invention.

The second place winner is Corianne Cha, 13, of North Brunswick, NJ. She used Bubble Wrap to create a “Stroke Rehabilitation Color Chart,” which helps stroke survivors gauge their recovering strength and guide their rehabilitation progress. She won a $5,000 U.S. Savings Bond.

The third place winner is Nathan Huber, 14, of St. Peter, MN. He used Bubble Wrap to create an interchangeable flash card system designed to make learning fun for children called “Bubble Learning.” He won a $3,000 U.S. Savings Bond.

Sealed Air announced the winners on Jan. 26 — its ninth annual “Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.”

Sealed Air recently introduced four new protective packaging products during PackExpo 2008, including the next generation of PriorityPak automated packaging system; the compact Fill-Air Cyclone inflatable packaging system; Quick Tuff RT (Room Temperature) foam packaging; and the next generation of Jet Stream delivery solutions.
