Ace Hardware is asking county officials for $1.1 million in sales tax breaks and a $2.1 million property tax abatement over 10 years to help offset the cost of a proposed 400,000-square-foot expansion of its distribution center in Wilton, N.Y. The existing 800,000-square-foot facility was built in 1997 and employs 292 people.
FedEx is planning a 193,000-square-foot distribution center in Theodore, AL. The project will begin in the coming months and is scheduled to be completed in early 2016.
Amazon plans to open a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Carteret, NJ that will create hundreds of full-time jobs. The company already has a facility in nearby Robbinsville, NJ that services the New York metro market. The company also plans to double the operational capacity of a 1-million-square-foot FC in Ruskin, FL, near Bradenton.
Walmart has reached a deal to buy a Target distribution center in Cornwall, Ontario, as well as 13 former Target store locations across Canada in a $350 million deal.
Target has dropped plans to build a 1.6 million-square-foot regional distribution center in Union County, NJ and is trying to sell the 166 acre site it purchased in 2006 for $6.8 million. The project has been on hold since 2008 due to the economic downturn.
FedEx plans to build a 300,000-square-foot distribution center in Oak Brook, MI, outside Detroit, for about $35 million. Construction is expected to take about a year to complete.
