Amazon to Build New Fulfillment Center, Expand a Second

Amazon.com continues to beef up its operation: The ecommerce giant announced today that it will build a new fulfillment center in Indianapolis, and expand an existing center in Phoenix.

The 900,000-sq.-ft. facility in Indianapolis will be Amazon’s third fulfillment center in Indiana, and bring its total footprint in the state to approximately 2.5 million square feet. The merchant did not disclose a timeline for opening the new facility, other than to say it will happen this year.

The 400,000- sq.-ft. expansion to its fulfillment center in Phoenix will make it more than 1 million square feet in size. The expansion will make the facility one of Amazon’s largest in North America.

Amazon, which operates two additional fulfillment centers in the Phoenix metro area, is also currently building two 1 million sq.-ft. distribution facilities in Tennessee.
