FedEx announced plans this week to build a $2 million, 12,000-square-foot ground distribution center in Safford, AZ, according to the Eastern Arizona Courier.
Convenience store chain Sheetz is nearing completion of a $33 million, 250,000-square-foot distribution center in Burlington, NC, which is expected to open in November, according to the Triad Business Journal.
Third-party logistics provider Goggin Warehousing LLC has acquired its first Memphis warehouse, an 188,000-square-foot facility, for more than $1.5 million, according to the Memphis Business Journal.
FedEx this week opened a new 88,000-square-foot solar-powered operations and warehouse center in Tonawanda, NY, outside of Buffalo, the Buffalo News reported. The facility will support FedEx Trade Networks Transport and Brokerage, the company’s freight-forwarding and customs brokerage service.
News that Amazon will begin collecting sales tax in Minnesota starting next week has led to speculation that the company may open a warehouse, data center or some other operation in the state or buy an existing firm, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Online-only retailers don’t need to charge sales tax in a state unless they have physical presence or affiliated business there.
FedEx Ground plans to finish construction of a new 200,000-square-foot distribution center in Hampton, VA in September, 2015, according to the Hampton Daily Press. The 22-acre site is close to customers’ distribution centers.
Amazon will soon open a 200,000-square-foot distribution center in Logan Township, NJ that has been under construction, according to NJ.com. A company spokesperson said the facility will be used to service same-day deliveries in the area.
