FedEx announced it has acquired inventory management provider Northwest Research Inc., adding technology to help with its ecommerce fulfillment capabilities as it makes up more of the company’s business. Terms and the closing date were not disclosed.
While it’s unclear what specifically Northwest brings to the table, the companies said in a release that it provides “new approaches to inventory management issues, including specialized research to maximize successful outcomes for challenging shipments.”
“Northwest Research’s unique technological capabilities will further enhance our customer experience by adding a suite of solutions to the FedEx portfolio that help proactively resolve at-risk shipments,” said Robert B. Carter, FedEx’s executive vice president and chief information officer in the release.
Founded in 1996, Northwest Research is headquartered in Salt Lake City, with offices in Memphis and Canada.
Other acquisitions in recent years by FedEx include cross-border specialist Bongo International and major 3PL GENCO, both in 2014, and Dutch parcel firm TNT Express in 2015.
