S&S Activewear has opened a new 505,000-square-foot distribution center in McDonough, GA, outside Atlanta. The company has existing facilities in Illinois, Kansas, New Jersey, California and Texas.
LBA Realty of Irvine, CA purchased a distribution center in Hanover Township, PA from Innovel Solutions Inc. for $43.7 million. Innovel, a unit of Sears Holding Corp., will lease the facility back from LBA and continue to use it. Sears is in the midst of a plan to raise $1 billion from the sale of its properties.
Mattel division American Girl is closing a distribution center and call center in Wilmot, WI by the end of June. The majority of the business activity will be transferred to American Girl’s Middleton, WI headquarters and at another facility in Deforest, WI, the company said.
DHL is opening a new $10 million, 47,000-square-foot service center in Long Island City NY that can process more than 3,000 packages an hour. It is also opening a local courier delivery operation in midtown Manhattan, complementing one in lower Manhattan.
iHerb is leasing a 257,344-square-foot distribution center in Elgin, IL, outside Chicago, its first in the state. Its other facilities are in California, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
FedEx has decided to scrap plans for a new distribution center in Greenwood, IN, near Indianapolis, two months after announcing the project. The company cited “projected operational needs” for the decision. It already has a 2 million square foot hub at the Indianapolis airport.
