Stalco, a Toronto-based third-party logistics provider specializing in fulfillment and distribution for high-velocity ecommerce clients in Canada, the U.S. and abroad, has been acquired by Canada Cartage, one of the country’s largest transportation and logistics providers.
Stalco will become a standalone unit within CCLS, Canada Cartage’s fulfillment and distribution division. It will be run independently by its president and co-founder, Steven Page, and the current management team will remain in place. It was again named to Multichannel Merchants Top 3PL list for 2021.
The acquisition will eventually allow Stalco to broaden its platform by adding a west coast location in addition to west coast injection into the U.S. With this addition, Stalco will be able to shorten delivery times to western Canada and the western U.S. to one or two days, essentially allowing it to service the entire continental U.S. within that timeframe.
In addition, Stalco will be able to leverage Canada Cartage’s trucking network to provide more efficient and cost-effective inbound and outbound freight service.
“This is a tremendously exciting transaction for us, as Stalco and CCLS have highly complementary business models, target markets and customer relationships,” said CCLS Senior Vice President Scott Lane in a release. “Both ecommerce and the natural health products markets are enjoying tremendous growth. The combination of our two companies helps us scale up our capabilities to offer customers better service and value.”
“This transaction offers significant synergies and opportunities, and will provide us with a far-reaching fulfillment and distribution platform to catapult our growth,” said Page. “I am very excited to be part of the Canada Cartage group of companies and look forward to what we can achieve together.”
Founded in 1994, Stalco provides order fulfillment, inventory management, importation, warehousing, returns management and cross-border shipping solutions. It also helps clients with overseas manufacturing to eliminate duty costs when shipping to the U.S.
Stalco specializes in handling and fulfillment of health and beauty products, having a site license from Health Canada. Since December 2013, Health Canada has strictly enforced complex regulations governing the manufacture, importation, sale and distribution of natural health products.
Last year, Health Canada enacted a temporary easing of these restrictions to allow for importation of ethanol for hand sanitizer production in the face of the growing pandemic.
