Google confirmed that Tom Fallows, the head of Google Express, its same-day delivery service is leaving for Uber, a car-hailing service.
Fallows’ move shows that Uber is interested in expanding into the delivery service. It has already offered a messenger service in New York City.
Google Express is aimed at targeting Amazon’s increasing success in becoming the starting place for online product searches. Google Express is in effect a competitor of Amazon’s Prime two-day shipping program; customers pay Google $95 a year to get unlimited same-day deliveries of products they order from retailers including Target, Walgreens and Costco.
