Barcelona, Aug. 5, 2020 — Printful is moving its Mexico fulfillment center to a 5x larger location as a part of its plan to scale up production capacity for the holiday season and expand its business globally. The company has invested $2.7 million U.S. dollars in the new fulfillment center and is planning to hire 200 more employees in the next two years. Currently, the Mexico team has 80 employees.
The print-on-demand company opened its fulfillment center in Tijuana, Mexico in November 2018. Having fulfilled more than a million products in the last two years, Printful will move to a larger 52k sq. ft. facility to expand its operations. The fulfillment center will enable Printful to increase their capacity for fulfilling US orders and ensure that the company is better prepared for the upcoming holiday season and the increase in orders that come in during that time of the year.
Tijuana is an ideal location because it gives access to a large pool of highly skilled and experienced apparel manufacturing professionals. The new fulfillment center will have a wider selection of production methods. Previously, it focused on sewing printed products in-house, whereas now fulfillment techniques such as direct-to-garment (DTG) and embroidery will become available over the next weeks, as well as sublimation next year.
‘’We want to expand internationally and grow our competitive advantage, so moving to a larger fulfillment center is the next logical step for us. These changes will also diversify the company’s fulfillment services so that Printful is ready for any new disruptions or spikes in demand due to Covid-19,’’ explains Davis Siksnans, CEO of Printful.
The expansion of the Mexico fulfillment center is part of Printful’s goal to have a more global presence in the POD industry. In 2020, Printful launched its sixth fulfillment center in Barcelona, began a collaboration with a fulfillment partner in Australia, and plans to open a facility in Canada.
