Bed Bath & Beyond Posts Ugly Third Quarter

Bed Bath & Beyond as expected posted a tough third-quarter report, with net sales and same-store sales down a third from last year and a net loss of $393 million as it considers a range of options up to and including a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. CEO Sue Gove said the company is listening to customers, but it may be too little, too late.

So-called “geek gear” subscription box seller Loot Crate, an early leader in the now red-hot category, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as cash runs low, according to various media reports. The company has a white knight buyer in the wings, a major collectible manufacturer and distributor that took on its debt.

Topshop to Close All U.S. Stores

Topshop plans to close its 11 U.S. stores after filing for bankruptcy, including doors in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Chicago, while continuing its Topshop and Topman brands online and through wholesale partners like Nordstrom.
