Omnichannel Sales Growing, But Profitability Still Uncertain

While retailers say they’re growing their omnichannel sales, it’s unclear how profitable they are, according to a new report from Retail Systems Research. Greater inventory visibility, including use of RFID, as well as better syncing of demand origination with inventory allocation, will help drag omnichannel into the black, the report’s author states.

American Apparel Goes Same-Day Delivery with Postmates

American Apparel has begun offering one-hour delivery through a partnership with Postmates, leveraging RFID technology to provide real-time inventory availability via the Postmates Order app. The program is in place at 79 stores in 31 U.S. markets, making 50 “on-demand basics” items like hoodies, t-shirts and socks available to consumers who desire the items right now.
