Wednesday was International Women’s Day and everywhere you looked on social media, particularly Instagram – people were celebrating. Retailers joined in and remembered women everywhere, including customers and their own employees alike.
While some retailers marketed products relating to women, others either asked women to tag their friends in a group image or retailers simply shared an inspirational quote without selling anything at all.
Here is a list of several retailers that made women the focus on Instagram:
Alex and Ani
Jewelry and accessories retailer Alex and Ani marketed their “Because I am a Girl” bracelet, celebrating women around the globe who are working towards a better future.
Ipsy
Subscription cosmetic and skincare company, Ipsy offered an inspirational quote to honor the day.
Sephora
Cosmetic and skin care retailer Sephora did an inspirational quote as well to honor women.
Old Navy
Apparel brand Old Navy asked followers to “tag your ride or die” chick for International Women’s Day.
Goop
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle site Goop went red in honor of International Women’s Day
Draper James
Actress Reese Witherspoon’s apparel and accessories brand Draper James provided a quote by its founder.
Williams Sonoma
Williams Sonoma celebrated International Women’s Day by cooking live from the Williams Sonoma test kitchen with a guest chef.
Express Men
Apparel brand, Express Men did a quote from Prince Harry on their Instagram account.
Macy’s
Macy’s celebrated marketing a denim jacket geared towards women for International Women’s Day.
Nordstrom
Nordstrom celebrated women by taking a moment to recognize their customers, employees and partners past, present and future.
Target
Target marketed brand Jack & Co with a little girl wearing “Strong Like Mom” t-shirt with a crown on her head.
What I enjoyed most about how these brands used Instagram was the fact that very few brands used product. Some of these retailers stepped away from selling and instead made attempts to reach customers through inspirational quotes and imagery. This is one great way to develop a relationship with your customers.
