Let’s face it. While it would be foolish not to have them, most visitors have grown immune to website sign ups. They’re surfing your site with their own goals in mind, generally immune to your subtle invitations to engage. The beauty of the modal popup or lightbox – a popup window that opens as the page fades in the background and is inoperable until the visitor either interacts or closes out of the window – is that it literally can’t be ignored. Include a discount, contest or free gift with purchase, and you can typically sit back and watch your list size soar. It’s a no-brainer solution that works for nearly every ecommerce retailer. For some of our emerging brands, implementing a modal popup has doubled their list size within a year.

Remember that you want to capture email addresses wherever your customers or potential customers are engaging with your brand, so don’t forget to test your modal popup for mobile.
