Amazon has officially launched Amazon.in in India, making it the tenth marketplace for the global ecommerce company.
According to a press release, the new site will start with selling books, movies, and TV shows and will later introduce additional categories including mobile phones and cameras in the coming weeks.
“Our vision, at Amazon, is to be Earth’s most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. With Amazon.in, we endeavor to build that same destination in India by giving customers more of what they want,” said Greg Greeley, vice president of International Expansion at Amazon.com in the release.
To celebrate the launch, Amazon.in will offer a limited promotion giving all customers free delivery on all orders fulfilled by Amazon.
Amazon also launched two new programs for the Indian retail community, Selling on Amazon and Fulfillment by Amazon. According to the release, these new services will give sellers unlimited and free “virtual shelf space and a scalable, pay-as-you-go fulfillment and customer service offerings.”
According to the release, these two programs are currently used by more than two million sellers globally.
“Our vision is to become a trusted and meaningful sales channel for retailers of all sizes across India, enabling them to succeed and efficiently grow their business online,” said Amit Agarwal, vice president and Country Manager, Amazon India in the release.
“With Fulfillment by Amazon, we will do the heavy lifting for the sellers so that they can focus on core business functions like sourcing and pricing their products.”
