Retailers, your preparation Black Friday and Cyber Monday will not be wasted, according to a poll conducted last week by research firm Deloitte.
Deloitte’s 2011 pre-Thanksgiving shopping survey shows that more than half of holiday shoppers (51%) plan to shop in-stores or online over the Thanksgiving weekend. Furthermore, nearly 70% of the 1,000 consumers polled between Nov. 17 and Nov. 19 are looking for information about Black Friday sales.
Other key findings of the survey include:
Nearly one quarter (23%) of Black Friday shoppers plan to head to the stores at midnight on Black Friday: Overall, 44% of shoppers who plan to hit the stores on Black Friday will start between midnight and 5 a.m.
More consumers plan to shop online on Black Friday than Cyber Monday: Among holiday weekend shoppers, 50% plan to shop online on Black Friday, compared with 41% who plan to shop online on Cyber Monday. In addition, 26% plan to shop online on Thanksgiving. More than four out of 10 (44%) of consumers say they find comparable deals online and in stores.
Consumers have completed just 23% of their gift shopping to date: Among the gifts they’ve bought, 26% of them have been purchased on sale or with a coupon.
