Amazon is expected to hire more than 70,000 full-time seasonal employees across its U.S. fulfillment centers for the holiday season in order to meet the increase in customer demand, a 40% increase over 2012, according to a press release.
Last year, Amazon converted thousands of seasonal employees into regular full-time employees after the holidays, according to the press release. It expects to do the same this year.
Macy’s Inc. announced its plans to hire 6,600 seasonal employees to work in its online fulfillment centers, and an additional 1,200 seasonal employees work in the fulfillment areas of the 500 Macy’s stores that fill and ship orders directly to customers, according to a press release.
Walmart has plans to hire 55,000 new seasonal employees and Target plans to hire 70,000 seasonal employees. However, neither merchant said how many of those seasonal hires would be dedicated to direct-to-customer operations and fulfillment.
