Women in Operations 2016 | Making Big Strides in a Male-Dominated Field

Angie-Stocklin-coverAccording to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Nontraditional Occupations for Women study conducted in 2009, male-dominated industries and occupations employ 25% or fewer women.

For example, the study showed that just 17% of transportation, storage, and distribution manager positions were held by women, and only 17.1% of women held all positions categorized as laborers and freight, stock, and material movers.

But the times have changed. For example, at One Click Ventures, about 78% of the operations team members are female, and nearly the same amount of women (75%) make up the operations team at Fairytale Brownies. Roughly 60% percent of omnichannel women’s apparel, bedding, home accessories and beauty brand Soft Surroundings’ operations team are women.

Women are making big strides in direct-to-customer operations, which is traditionally a male-dominated field. In its September 2016 issue, Multichannel Merchant profiled 10 female executives who have risen to great heights in direct-to-customer operations. Click to read their stories:
