Home electronics and entertainment retailer Best Buy announced it was offering free two-day shipping on thousands of online items in an effort to lure more holiday shoppers, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
This is the latest salvo in an ongoing battle of one-upmanship among retailers chasing consumer holiday dollars. Target got the ball rolling in October when it announced free shipping on all online orders between Oct. 22 and Dec. 20, with some exceptions.
Best Buy has not yet announced an end date for the holiday delivery offer.
“Shipping is obviously important to our customers,” said Best Buy spokesman Jeff Shelman. “We wanted to make sure customers can shop now and be very confident the items will be delivered well before the holidays.”
The offer does require a $35 minimum purchase, which is Best Buy’s typical threshold for standard free shipping, and items like music, movies and pre-owned video games are not eligible.
