A USPS data breach this fall affected personal information of up to 800,000 current and former employees as well as regulatory groups that oversee it, the agency reported. However no customer credit or debit card information was compromised, and USPS operations were not affected.
With online retailers shipping more products to their customers, the demand for package service has grown. The USPS is adding package delivery on Sundays to prepare for the heavy shipping season.
While the U.S. Postal Service ended the first quarter of 2014 with a net loss of $354 million, its shipping business increased by 14%. This growth, UPS said, was fueled by an increase in online shopping and Sunday deliveries in limited U.S. markets.
