Wayfair is taking on Amazon and Alibaba with its own one-day shopping event called Way Day, promising Black Friday-like deals on home furnishings, décor and home improvement items on April 25. Other perks of the day include free shipping on all orders.
“We are looking to a new retail holiday on the map that celebrates home,” said Steve Oblak, Chief Merchandising Officer for Wayfair. “Spring is the season when our customers are especially focused on sprucing up and furnishing outdoor spaces in anticipation of warm weather and summer entertaining.”
Liza Lefkowski, Globe Head of Brand, Creative and Curation at Wayfair said in an email that ecommerce doesn’t require adherence to the traditional retail calendar, because shoppers can get to a desktop or mobile site anytime, and promotions don’t need to be centered around major holidays and events.
“We’re trying to give customers what they need during the times when its most valuable to them,” said Oblak.
Lefkowski said Wayfair the decision to launch Way Day is a response to customer behaviors and preferences.
“We knew that our customers would find a lot of value in getting access to door-buster prices at this time of year, so we’re excited to be creating a new holiday that celebrates home specifically,” said Oblak.
Way Day prices will be available across all product categories including kitchen, dining, bedding, rugs, tabletop and mattresses including its compact bed-in-a-box mattress, Nora.
“As an ecommerce retailer, we are uniquely positioned to quickly and easily source deals on products people want for their homes right now,” said Oblak. “We can meet our customers where they are with the deals they want, when they want them.”
