Amazon Expands Ecommerce Fulfillment Capacity in India

In line with the hyper growth of ecommerce activity there, Amazon is expanding its operations in India by adding seven new fulfillment centers. MoneyControl.com reported that Amazon India plans to invest $5 billion in its facilities by the end of June.

“These [new fulfillment centers] will double our storage capacity this year as compared to last year,” said Akhil Saxena, Vice President of Customer Fulfillment for Amazon India. “We continue to invest in strengthening our infrastructure to match our pace of business expansion in India.”

In all, Amazon India plans to add 14 new fulfillment centers this year, bringing the total to 41. In April it announced seven of them will service its appliances and furniture categories.

The new FCs will be located in Telangana, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andra Pradesh provinces. Amazon India will also expand capacity in its existing FCS in Ahmedabad and Delhi to support increased customer and seller demands.
